Hello there,

I'm Niko. A technical director at QRLA Labs LTD born out of the Alacrity Foundation Incubator.

TLDR; I started web-dev in 2019 and am now working on mobile development using React Native(Expo)/TS using Laravel on the server.

2019

Started playing around with HTML/CSS.

2020

I got stuck into JS and then like many naive front-end devs jumped too soon into React.

2020-2022

Pretty classic story at this point; was working an office job. Study web-dev around my job.

Covid hits. Go on furlough. Get to grips with React over this period.

I started working part-time so I could split my week 3 days office work, 4 days developing projects, knowledge expansion, etc. Leaned into the MongoDB, Express, React, NodeJS stack.

During this time I discovered ThreeJS library built on the WebGL api. Damn it's awesome. That's why a bunch of my earlier projects are ThreeJS based.

When I get some more time I'm going to revisit it. Started working through the course ThreeJS Journey by Bruno Simon. Great course.

October 2022

Joined the team at Hut Six Security Ltd as a Front-End Developer.

Was my first time working in a real enterprise level codebase. Was a big learning curve. But with great support and a talented team I learnt a lot.

On the front-end we used Vue and Typescript. Vue's a great framework and easy to pick up. Typescript took a while. HutSix was supportive in these learning effots and encouraged me to take the Harvard CS50 course. Types are more intuitive when you've worked with C. I use TS in all my projects now.

They used C#/dotnet so was a big change learning strongly typed back-end stack but was absolutely worth it.

October 2023

Taking the opportunity to build a start up I joined the Alacrity Foundation's entrepreneurship programme. You can read about it here. (opens in a new tab)

I currently serve as technical director for QRLA Labs LTD; A cybersecurity company focused on establishing improved securty in QR code scanning and generation.

In this capacity I have acted as the front-end lead developing the QRLA (opens in a new tab) mobile application. Check it out on the App and Play Store. I've also adopted the responsibility of product manager implementing Agile practices in the team.
